GENERAL INFORMATION

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure intended for the elimination of fat accumulations and stretch marks especially in the abdominal area of the body, which are caused by weight gains and losses or pregnancy. In this procedure, the aim is to eliminate the fat accumulation and the resultant stretch marks (if any).

Sometimes excess skin and fat tissues may remain in the abdominal region after weight gains and losses or pregnancy, which cannot be eliminated, no matter what the patient does. Loosening of the abdominal muscles as well as their loss of strength increases sagging and weight gain. Although a strict post-pregnancy fitness program is mostly helpful, the recovering of the body and the abdominal muscles may take a long time due to the inability to allocate time because of baby-care, busyness and fatigue. Stretch marks that develop at that stage are also annoying. Such cases are the reasons for having abdominoplasty.

A general body examination is performed before the operation. Excessive amount of skin and amount of fat is determined by the specialist. Skin elasticity, skin thickness, skin - oil relationship is a very important parameter in abdominal stretching operations and should be examined. Preoperative incision sites and surgery are planned, followed by appropriate photographing.
Abdominoplasty can be performed under general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. At the beginning of the operation, abdominal fats are loosened by means of a special fluid. Afterwards, the adipose tissue is taken out by means of a cannula, and the excess adipose tissue and stretch marks are removed with incisions made on the pre-marked areas. The loosened and weakened abdominal muscles are strengthened. All the layers of the incision sites are repaired, and then the operation is ended. The surgery generally takes about 2 hours. In general, abdominoplasty involves the removal of the tissues below the belly, as well as the tightening of the tissues on it, for reshaping the abdomen. Meanwhile, the belly button is formed in such a way as to ensure it to match with the new formation, without changing its location.
A drain can be used for one or several days after surgery, with intent to remove the fluid that accumulated in the abdomen; and the paint is hospitalized for 1 to 2 days.
Liposuction is often accompanied for a better abdominal contour. Can be done to abdominal tissue, both basins, and side fat pads.
Sometimes sagging and excess skin are observed to be limited. In such a case, the MINI ABDOMINOPLASTY procedure is applied. In this procedure, excess skin and adipose tissues under the belly button are removed while keeping intact the belly button. In such cases, the removed part is limited, and the patient is not necessarily hospitalized. In the both surgical procedures, the scar that will remain after surgery is planned to be located in the inguinal region that can be hidden in underpants and bikini.
It is necessary to walk straight and upright in the same way as before. The sooner the patient starts to walk upright, the more confidence will increase and the recovery will accelerate. The patient should have full confidence in the doctor and he / she needs to hear the word of doctor.
Scar formation and its permanency are directly associated with the technique used as well as the patient’s tissue and reaction to the intervention. The most predictive factors in this regard is the healing of the patient’s tissue. On the other hand, the diversity of treatment options against scar formation, provided in recent years, is pleasing.
We especially recommend patients to start doing exercise 1-2 weeks after abdominoplasty. The point to consider when doing exercise is to start with walking-type sports activities that do not cause pain or push the limits of the body, and then exercise the abdominal muscles and upper part of the body in the course of time. Doing this will accelerate healing.
Although pregnancy is not recommended after abdominoplasty, it has been ascertained that those who have gotten pregnant have given birth healthily. However, it would be in favor of the patient if she makes sure that she will not plan a pregnancy in the near future when deciding on this surgical procedure.
The corset dressed after the operation should remain for 3-4 weeks. Patients are immediately got up and walked the same night or the next morning, and they are given the information they need to return to normal life in a short time.
